Nov 24
Maureen Taylor – Bess of Hardwick
Was Bess of Hardwick ‘avaricious, ambitious, masculine in deeds and thoughts’ as thought of for years after her death, or was she ‘sociable, friendly, vivacious, caring only for her family’ as described in her lifetime? Today, she is possibly regarded as a social climber or just interested in rich men to marry. She married into the social levels in which she found herself.
All talks take place at Lowdham WI Hall and start at 7.30 and are followed by tea or coffee afterwards. New members and guests always welcome.
